David Weaver was attacked outside the Hare and Hounds pub in Erdington on 22 November 2008 and died the following year in hospital on 26 April 2009.
He had been at the Hare and Hounds pub when a fight broke out which then spilled out into the street. There were about 200 people there and David Weaver was attacked.
He suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital in a coma where he died five months later without regaining consciousness.
He and the other people at the pub had been there for the wake of a man who had been murdered.
David Weaver had earlier been collecting money for a charity raffle.
The police later released CCTV footage of the incident.
The police took over 100 statements during their investigation and viewed hours of CCTV footage. They said that people they interviewed at the time seemed reluctant to give evidence and at an appeal in 2016 they called for people that had seen what had happened, but said nothing at the time, to come forward. They said, 'We are confident that somebody saw what took place'.
Two people were arrested in connection with his murder but no charges were made.
