Elizabeth Plumb

Age: 50

Sex: female

Date: 29 Aug 1904

Place: Dingle, Earlestown

The body of an unknown woman was found dead by some children in Earlstown on the afternoon of Sunday 28 August 1904.

She was found in what was known locally as the Dingle at Earlstown.

She was described as having apparently been of the vagrant class.

Medical examination of her body found that she had what appeared to be finger marks on her throat, and that appearances pointed to her having been strangled. It was thought that she had been dead for about 30 hours by the time her body was found.

Her clothing was much disarranged and there had apparently been a severe struggle.

At her inquest, it was heard that the woman had been seen drinking with a man earlier on the Friday night at a public house and that when they had left that they had gone off in the direction where her body was later found.

A pedlars licence was found on her body in the name of Elizabeth Plumb, 92 Charles Street, Manchester.

However, the conclusion of the inquest is not known and her identity was not proved.
