John Logan

Age: 73

Sex: male

Date: 6 Aug 1993

Place: Maryport, Cumbria

John Logan died in his house after a 9-year-old boy placed a plank on his chimney, resulting in him dying from fumes.

However, it was heard that the child was under the age of criminal responsibility and his death was described as a child's prank gone wrong.

In a statement, the 9-year-old boy said, 'I saw a boy climb on to the roof and put a piece of wood on his chimney. I went up and put another piece on'.

It was heard that the children had been pestering him for years. They used to shout taunts at him and break his windows. It was heard that a favourite trick of theirs was to cover his chimney with a piece of wood so they could laugh at him when he ran out with a smoke blackened face.

John Logan had fought at Arnhem during the war and had lost an arm.
