Neil Hughes was found murdered on a moor in Invershin on 19 March 1909.
A man was arrested but later released.
Neil Hughes had been a peddler. He had been robbed and murdered in his tent on the road near to the village of Roseball in Sutherlandshire on the night of 18 March 1909.
It was thought that his head had been smashed in from outside of his tent, resulting in his brains being scattered about.
Neil Hughes was said to have been about 60 years of age and to have been a bachelor and to have lived alone.
He was said to have been a native of Stornoway.
