Jason McRoy came off his Harley Davidson motorbike on the A628 at Woodhead Pass near Glossop in Derbyshire, on 24 August 1995.
It was thought that he might have been hit from behind by a Volvo lorry, however, the lorry didn't stop and was never traced.
The road conditions were described as having been wet and treacherous.

He was described as having been one of the world's top downhill mountain bikers, having won the British championship in 1993 and 1994 and winnging a silver medal in the 1995 championship. He had also been tenth in the Grundig World Cup.
He was noted for having not thought he would live to see 30 and for having planned his own funeral after realising that the sport he was in was a risky one.
His funeral service was held at Washington Parish Church and had arranged for modern songs to be played instead of traditional ones, including Eric Clapton's song Tears in Heaven. Other songs included Everybody Hurts by REM, Don't Cry by Guns and Roses, Love is All Around by Wet Wet Wet and Stairway to Heaven by Led Zepplin. Following the service he was cremated at Sunderland Crematorium.
