George Bailey died following an assault at a public house.
He was found unconscious outside the All Saints Tavern in York Street, Manchester on Friday 8 June 1962. He was found spawled out on his back on the pavement with a cut to the back of his head.
He was taken to hospital where it was reported that he was 'brought back from the dead', but died 17 hours later. His heart had stopped beating when he arrived at the hospital, but doctors used the 'kiss of life' method of resuscitation and massaged his heart, to restore his breathing and he was then put in an oxygen tent.
He had lived in Alexandra Place, Collyhurst in Manchester and had been a waiter in a Manchester restaurant.
It was noted that on the day he died that he should have been going on holiday.
