Evelyn Jackson died following a robbery at her flat at 4 Bickerdike Court, Erneley Close, Longsight on Friday 28 November 2003. She died 12 days later on 10 December 2003 at the Manchester Royal Infirmary.
She had been attacked sometime between 1.30pm and 2.15pm. The man stole her handbag, which had contained about £1,000 and had then run off.
Seh was found later by a neighbour who called for an ambulance.
She said that the man forced his way into her flat after calling, saying that he was looking for her granddaughter. She described him as being in his late teens or early twenties, and being neither black, nor white, and it was assumed that he had been half-caste.
She said that when she opened the door that he barged his way in and attacked her, punching her in the face and then repeatedly stamping on her whilst she was on the floor.
Evelyn Jackson was left with a broken hip and a double-fractured jaw.
She said that she thought she had seen the man about in the area on previous occasions and that he had even been to her flats before.
The police said that they thought that someone living in the area knew something about the murder.
Evelyn Jackson had lived in Bickerdike Court for the previous 38 years. She was noted for only having one arm and being partially deaf following an accident at work in a mill during her teens.
