Louisa Ann Ardis

Age: 28

Sex: female

Date: 27 Nov 1924

Place: Dansie Street, Liverpool

Louisa Ann Ardis was found unconscious in Dansie Street, Liverpool on the night of 27 November 1924 and died shortly after.

A man that had been with her ran off.

An open verdict was returned.

Louisa Ardis had been married but had separated and her husband, a licenced porter, paid her nine shillings a week.

On the Sunday night she had been seen walking with another man around midnight.

She was soon after found in an unconscious condition, bleeding from the nose and mouth and when she was conveyed to the Royal Infirmary, she was found to be dead.

Louisa Ardis had lodged in Kempston Street. A woman that lodged with her said that they used to go out together.

The inquest heard that there had been a man whom Louisa Ardis had appeared to be frightened of. Her friend said that his name had been Peter but that she had not known him personally.

A Corporation employee said that on the night of her death, that he had seen a man and woman standing at the corner of Dansie Street. He said that he then heard a thud and that the man asked him to 'lend a hand' with the woman, who had fallen. He said that they then knocked at the door of a house in the street and asked for water to wash Louisa Ardis's face. He said that she was then taken into the house and the man said he would go for a policeman, but he never came back, and that he ran down the street, 'for all he was worth'.

An ambulance was then sent for but Louisa Ardis was found to be dead on arrival.

It was noted shortly after her death that it was considered possible that a charge of murder could arise out of the case.

The medical evidence was to the effect that death had been due to asphyxia from injury to the nose. There were no signs of violence, and it was heard that her death was quite consistent with her having fainted and fallen.
