Thomas Herbert Sturgess

Thomas Herbert Sturgess was found injured in the road, having come off his bicycle.

He was unconscious in the middle of the road between Great Glen and Kibworth with his cycle undamaged by the road side.

He was discovered by a man that had lived in Holmfield Road, Leicester, at 6.45pm on Friday 12 April 1924 whilst he was motoring from Northampton to Leicester. He said that he saw two dark objects on the road, one being Thomas Sturgess and the other being his bicycle. He said he thought that Thomas Sturgess might have skidded.

After being found Thomas Sturgess was brought home and later died at 3.30am on the Saturday morning.

A doctor that visited the scene of the accident, said that Thomas Sturgess had had a wound on his head that was more consistent with a fall from a cycle than contact from a passing vehicle.

A police constable that visited the scene of the accident said that he noticed that the ground appeared to have been cut by the pedal of a bicycle.

The Coroner said that it was just as likely that he had been knocked down as he had skidded and an open verdict was returned.

Thomas Sturgess had been a hosiery hand with Messrs Goadby Bros in Crafton Street and had lived in Kibworth Beauchamp.
