Georgia Pittortou

Age: 5

Sex: female

Date: 12 Apr 1963

Place: York Way, St Pancras

Georgia Pittortou was knocked down by a car that drove off.

She was knocked down on a zebra crossing in York Way, St Pancras, on 12 April 1963.

Georgia Pittortou had lived at 326 York Way.

Her mother said that she and Georgia Pittortou had been crossing the road by the zebra crossing when a car appeared from the right and struck them both. She said that she herself received leg injuries.

A doctor that had lived in Ferrestone Road, Hornsey, said that he had been driving behind the car that hit Georgia Pittortou and her mother and that he saw the driver get out and carry Georgia Pittortou to the pavement. He said:

I mentioned that the little girl was dead. That was the last I saw of the man. When I looked around a few minutes later, both he and the car had disappeared.

The pathologist that carried out the post mortem said that Georgia Pittortou's death was due to multiple injuries, a fractured thigh, broken neck and bruising of the lungs.

The Coroner said that the case was a typical London one, with no witnesses. He said:

Obviously the man panicked when he heard the little girl was dead. In fact, this was not so, because she later breathed again before dying in the Royal Northern Hospital.
