The body of a newly-born female child was found in Fishponds on Wednesday 11 June 1924.
It was found by a farm labourer who had lived in King Street, Long Buckby. He said that on the Wednesday morning he had gone to the Fishponds field to fetch two horses and that whilst crossing the bridge he saw a parcel with a brown paper covering in the water. He said that he then got it out and found that it contained the dead body of a child.
He said that he then laid the body on the bank and went off to inform the police and then later took the body to the farm buildings.
