The body of a child was found in the River Isla on 27 April 1921.
An 18-year-old domestic servant was tried for its murder, but acquitted.
It was claimed that between 1 and 27 April 1921 at Kinloch Home Farm in Meigle, or the neighbourhood, that the woman had given birth to the child, after which she had exposed it to the weather and the water of the River Isla, in consequence of which it had died.
The body of the child was found by the woman's father, a shepherd, on 27 April 1921 whilst out working near the river.
He said that whilst the police were making enquiries about the child, he spoke to his daughter about it, but said she had said:
A man that had lived at 7 St Andrew Street in Alyth, said that he had frequently gone for walks with the woman and they had been getting on affectionate terms and he had offered to marry her.
At the trial, a detective stated that the evidence showed that the child had lived after being born.
However, the jury found the woman not guilty.
