Stuart Blake

Age: 23

Sex: male

Date: 1 Jul 1985

Place: Plough Public House, Tilehurst, Reading

Stuart Blake was stabbed when he tried to break up a fight at the Plough public house in Reading in July 1985.

A man was tried for his murder but acquitted.

The man, who had lived in Farmers Close in Whitley, had gone to the Plough public house in Tilehurst with some friends and had got into an argument at the bar with another man after insulting racist remarks were made by other customers.

It was heard then that Stuart Blake tried to break the fight up and was stabbed in the neck and abdomen.

The man said that all he remembered of the fight was being hit on the head with a billiard cue and getting up off the floor.

The prosecution said that he had been seen holding a knife during the fracas, but he denied having carried a knife that evening.
