Baby

Age: 0

Sex: male

Date: 17 Dec 2021

Place: 34 Norman Crescent, Rossington, South Yorkshire

A baby was found dead in a freezer at a house at 34 Norman Crescent, Rossington, Doncaster, on Thursday 16 December 2021.

The body was found in a plastic bag in a freezer at the property by some children  who then informed a woman who told her 23-year-old partner who went to see, after which the police and an ambulance were called.

A 17-year-old girl and a 45-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder, although the 17-year-old girl was released soon after, with the police stating she was no longer being considered a suspect.

An ambulance had been called to the scene at 12.15pm, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 23-year-old man, who had been a shop worker, was found between 11.30am and 12pm. He said that he had been told to go round after his 28-year-old partner told him that she had seen the baby in the freezer earlier. The man said that he had gone round because he wanted to make sure the baby was not a doll.

He said:

I thought she must be telling the truth but I had to go and check for myself. She said to me, 'There's a dead baby' and that’s when she hung up. She was on the phone to the police and I had to go through the first living room and I walked through the second living room and saw the plastic Herons bag which had been moved from the freezer by two children. I just literally grabbed the bag to take a look and straight away I could tell it was a dead baby as my partner and I had just had our own baby girl so I knew there was no doubt in my mind. The baby was in the foetal position. You could see that the skin was frozen, there was a lot of frost on its legs. I was shocked and speechless. I work at the local supermarket Herons just across from our house and I recognised the bag immediately. I left then as I couldn’t stay in the house and I had a cigarette in the garden to calm my nerves. I felt physically sick and waited for the police to arrive.

The man's partner said:

I was traumatised by what I had seen and I had to come home and see my own baby.

The police said that tests were being carried out to determine the cause of death, but nothing more is known.
