Date: 22 Nov 1995

Place: Thornley Road South, Denton

Pat Hayes was shot twice in the head whilst asleep in her bed in her bungalow in Thorley Lane South in Denton, Tameside.

A man was tried for her murder but acquitted.

Pat Hayes had been a business woman and a lesbian.

The police said that they had two theories for her cold-blooded murder:

  1. The the killer had been a victim of her hard-nosed business dealings.
  2. Her murder was connected to her lesbian life.

It was understood that the doors were locked and that her killer might have had a key.

Her body was found by her 29-year-old female lodger who slept in another room.

The man tried for her murder had been an ex-boxer. It was claimed that he had been paid to assassinate her in a contract killing. It was also alleged that his 57-year-old mother had arranged the alleged contract. They were acquitted after the jump directed the jury to return a not guilty verdict after reviewing the evidence.
