Jerome Cunningham, Patrick Higgins, Alan Ross and Patrick Burke all died in a fire at Hyde House Hostel in Ardwick in December 1983.

It could not be determeind whether the fire had been started deliiberatly or accidentally. However, the Coroner said:

I am of the opinion that there is a strong possibility that this was maliciously started, but I am not satisfied that the evidence points directly to the fact it was definitely a maliciously started fire.
