Diane Sindall was murdered in an alleyway of Borough Road, Bebington, Birkenhead on Friday 1 August 1986.
A man was shortly after convicted of her murder on but later appealed and his convictioin was quashed. He had served 38 yerars in prison.
Diane Sindall had been a florist, working for her families florist business, and also worked part time as a barmaid. She had been on her way home from a shift on the night of 1 August 1986 when her van broke down and she walked off along Borough Road to get some petrol.
However, she was attacked in an alleyway off Borough Road and beaten to death with a crowbar.
It was thought that the attack had been sexually motivated and that she had been raped. It was later noted at the time of the murder the technology to test the semen samples didn't exist and that when smaples were later tested in 2023 the DNA found belonged to another man, and that on the grounds that it was likely that the seman belonged to her murdferer the man's conviction was quashed.
However, it was also noted that searches of the national DNA database failed to find a match for the DNA found.
The police noted that since 230 they had screened and aliminated over 230 men from their enquiry.
The police said:
Diane Sindall had been due to marry soon. At the time of her murder she had been working part time at the Wellington pub in Bebington, Wirral.
It was thoughtthat she had been walking along Borough Road either to a petrol station or on her way home when she was dragged into the alleyway and attacked.
She was found to have had head injuries and lacerations, thought to have been caused by a crowbar, as well as bite marks, which at the time of the trial were said to have been a match of the man convicted.
The details surrounding her murder were said to have been so appalling that they were never released by police, however, details soon leaked out and word went round that a "wolfman'' was at large and might strike again.
It was also later heard that her breasts and genitals had been lacerated.
Seh died from brain hemorhage due to multiple blows to the head.
Diane Sindall's clothes were found the following day burning on Bidston Hill and a witness later said they had seen the man burning his and her clothes there.
A taxidriver later came forward to say that he saw a man and woman arguing in Borough Road and other witness's said they heard screaming.
Diane Sindall had lived in Seacombe in Wirral.
Followinng her murder a small black granite memorial close to the scene of the attack on Borough Road was put in place.
