Michael Bevan died from a heroin overdose at his flat in Heathside Drive, Kings Norton on 12 May 1983.
His 32-year-old girlfriend was tried for his manslaughter but acquitted.
Michael Bevan collapsed after a heroin injection and died soon after. His girlfriend and a friend made efforts to revive him but without success.
His girlfriend told the court that she had injected Michael Bevan on previous occasions, but not that night, and never when he had been drinking. However, the friends said that she had injected him.
It was heard that she had injected Michael Bevan, who had been out drinking with his friend, when he had returned home.
Michael Bevan was found to have died from a combination of drink and drugs.
The court heard that his girlfriend had been a drug addict, injecting herself with heroin twice daily and that she had claimed that Michael Bevan used the drug from time to time.
However, the judge told the jury that the evidence before them was of such a tenuous character, notwithstanding the inconsistencies in the evidence of the friend that had been there, that he could relieve them of the responsibility of having to decide on the issue.
It was heard that the friend had originally said that Michael Bevan's girlfrind had not given him the fatal injection, but that he later said that she did. It was heard that the friend had said that he had initially been frightened and had gone along with the girlfrien'd story after she threatened him, but that he had later decided to tell the truth.
