The body of an almost headless newly-born child was found in a backwash of the River Don known as Tail Gate, just off of Rutland Road.
The body was discovered by a 15 year old boy who saw some legs sticking out of a coat in a pile of rubbish. He said he touched the coat with his shovel and discovered the body of the child.
The body was badly decomposed and the doctor who examined it could not determine its sex or the cause of death.
