Unsolved Murders

Age: 0

Sex: male

Date: 26 Mar 1902

Place: Albert Running Grounds, Kingsthorpe Road, Kingsthorpe, Northampton

The body of a newly-born babe was found in a parcel by the running track at Albert Running Grounds.

The parcel was found by an old labourer who was working at the Half-way House on Kingsthorpe Road on the Friday morning, 21 March 1902.

He said that it was about three feet away from the fence beyond the running track that divided the Albert Running Grounds from the road. He said that it was wrapped up in paper and a bit of an old rag.

A doctor who examined the body said that it had been dead for about two days. He said that there were no external marks of violence and that he was of the opinion that the child had had a separate existence based on the fact that the lungs were inflated.

He said that it was a fully developed fine child and weighed 7.25lbs.
