The body of a newly-born child was found in the River Derwent.

The body was found by a labourer from Ferry House in Milne Road, Draycott. He said that it was in the river and caught up in some overhanging branches.

He informed the police who recovered it from the river.

The policeman that recovered it said that he was of the opinion that the child was a month old. He also said that he thought that it had been in the water for about a month and that it was very decomposed and that its features were destroyed in consequence.

An open verdict was returned.
