Michael Jonas was stabbed in Betts Park, Penge on 2 November 2017.

The police attended the scene soon after he was stabbed at 7.20pm and administered first aid but he died at the scene at 8.15pm. The London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance were also called out.

Michael Jonas had been stabbed multiple times. It was reported that a member of the ambulance crew had said that it wasn't a normal knife that had killed him.

His post mortem examination which took place on Friday 3 November 2017 at the Princess Royal University Hospital stated that his cause of death was stab wounds to the chest and haemorrhage.

Five suspects were seen on CCTV riding about on bicycles and a 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday 4 November 2017 but was later released with no further action on 7 November 2017.

On 9 November 2017 two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, were charged with his murder.

In January 2018 it was reported that six teenagers were charged over his murder, but the charges against them were all dropped on 15 January 2018 due to insufficient evidence.

It was said that Michael Jonas had been walking alone through the park, which was near to his home, when he was chased and attacked by multiple people.

Michael Jonas had only just turned 17 years old and it was heard that he had mentioned to his mother a few days before his murder that he wanted to move away from the area because it was dangerous.
