A man died in a hit and run accident in East Prescot Road in Knotty Ash shortly after 12.30am on 27 December 1989.
The man's identity was not known. He was taken to Broadgreen Hospital where he was certified dead on arrival.
He was described as being in his mid 20s and having a brown moustache, brown collar-length hair and to have been wearing a blue anorak and grey trousers.
The vehicle didn't stop.
The accident happened on the East Prescot Road about 200 yards east of the direction with Chatterton Road. The vehicle struck the man in the outside lane and drove off towards Prescot.
It was thought that the car had been a red or brown Ford Escort and that it would have received damage to its front and possibly nearside as a result of the collision.
