Date: 13 Mar 1953
The body of a newly born infant was found in a suitcase at 44 Nightingale Road in Southsea on 13 March 1953.
It was found by a policeman at 6.30pm on 13 March 1953 when he went to the address. The policeman said that he later went to Holloway Prison on 20 March 1953 where he interviewed a woman, but she refused to make a statement. A report was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, but they advised the police not to take any criminal proceedings.
There was no evidence to indicate the child's sex or whether it had had a separate existence.
An open verdict was returned.
