The body of a woman was found in the River Thames in December 1961 or January 1962.
She was identified by a man as his girlfriend and an open verdict was returned. However, the 28-year-old woman who the boyfriend had identified later turned up. It was noted however that she was still legally considered dead as her death had been recorded. The Coroner said, 'Once a verdict is recorded it can only be altered by the High Court'. However, he noted that he would take the legal steps to get the verdict cancelled.
It was reported that following the revelation that the police were trying to trace the woman's boyfriend as a witness for further proceedings.
However, the identity of the body found was still not revealed.
