Clay Benjamin was stabbed through the heart on 21 October 2000.
He had been at a blues party at the time in Granby Street, Toxteth.
After being stabbed he was taken to hospital, but soon after died.
A man was charged with his murder but acquitted.
It was thought that his murder might have been linked to the later shooting of a family of three in 2003 who were shot by a masked gunman that burst into their home in Chatsworth Drive. The shooting had targeted the sister of the man tried but acquitted of Clay Benjamin's murder.
The 2003 shooting was described as having been related to a gangland feud.
