Sharon Tyler was stabbed ten times in the chest in the kitchen of her home.
A neighbour was convicted of her murder but later acquitted at a retrial.
He was acquitted after it was found that Sharon Tyler had had oral sex with a man other than her common-law husband a short while before she died but that the forensic expert that examined her body had not recorded finding the semen in the back of her throat and had later altered his notes.
It was also heard that the forensic expert had not examined the murder weapon properly after he had treated two blood marks on the knife as one sample. He later admitted that one of the two blood stains might have been older than the other and could have merged into one.
It was also noted that hair samples that were found in Sharon Tyler's hand were not examined using the best available method and that since the initial murder trial they had been destroyed.
The neighbour said that on the day of the murder he had been at home and had gone out to get a Chinese takeaway leaving his wife at home and that when he returned he had heard Sharon Tyler arguing with a man and that when he went in to see what was happening he had found Sharon Tyler lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen.
