Date: 3 Nov 1991

Place: Hereford Drive, Netherton

Darren Roughley was stabbed through the heart by his girlfriend during a drunken row.

His 25-year-old girlfriend was tried for his murder but acquitted at a trial in September 1992.

Seh said that she didn't remember picking up the knife and stabbing him.

They had been living together for about two months but there had been violent incidents after Darren Roughley became aggressive with drink.

On Sunday 3 November 1991 they spent the afternoon drinking and when they returned home they argued as Darren Roughley had wanted to go out again.

Neighbours said they heard a disturbance at the house about 7.30pm.

His girlfriend said that he repeatedly hit her across the face and kicked her in the back and that she became terrified. She said:

He would not stop and just went mad. He was out of control, pushing and hitting me. the next thing I remember is him being on the floor and I saw blood on his shirt.

Darren Roughley died two hours later, despite emergency surgery, from cardiac arrest following massive haemorrhaging.

His post mortem showed that he had been stabbed through the heart and pulmonary artery to a depth of between one and three quarter to three inches.
