Abdul Mahroof was found hanging from his second-floor window in 1994 and was left paralysed. He died 8 years later from aspiration due to pneumonia on 7 November 2001.
Abdul Mahroof was found hanging from the second-floor window of his flat. A neighbour and emergency services loosened the knot in the rope and he was lowered to the ground. When he was lowered he was found to have a cigarette clamped in his mouth which had to be pried out before resuscitation could be carried out.
