Baby

The body of a newly-born child was found at the Accrington and Church Sewerage Works.

The body was found by a labourer who was cleaning out the screening chamber at the sewerage works.

It was naked and had come down the outfall sewer from either Accrington or Church.

It was said that it could not have come from an ordinary household drain and must have been put down a manhole in the street.

The child had been dead for about ten days.
