Baby

Age: 0

Sex: male

Date: 13 Sep 1907

Place: River Thames, Little Thurrock, Grays, Essex

The body of a newly-born child was found washed up with the tide in the River Thames near the dust shoot at Little Thurrock.

It was wrapped up in an old ragged blue pair of boy's knickers and was in an advanced state of decomposition. It's arms and head were hanging out.

The parcel was seen by a boy who told a workman who opened it up and when he saw the body went to get the police.

The body was then taken to the Ship Inn in Little Thurrock where the post-mortem was carried out.

It was found to have been a male child and was thought to have been in the water for about six weeks.
