Place: Knostrop Locks
The body of a newly born child was found floating in the river near Knostrop locks.
It was wrapped up in brown paper and tied with string. Attached to the parcel was a delivery label addressed to a Leeds tradesman.
It was thought to have been in the water for three weeks or a month and was in an advanced state of decomposition.
The Cause of death was given as asphyxiation by drowning although it was quite possible that the child could have been suffocated before going into the water.
