Nathaniel Reeves

Age: 28

Sex: male

Date: 1 Jun 1940

Place: Derby-Duffield Road, Darley Abbey

Nathaniel Reeves was run over on the road.

He was found lying in Duffield Road at Darley Abbey at about 1.15am on 1 June 1940 by a driver from Manor Road in Derby who ran over him. However, the doctor said that Nathaniel Reeves had previously sustained concussion through falling or being knocked backwards and that those injuries were the ultimate cause of his death.

It was said that when the driver ran over Nathaniel Reeves, Nathaniel Reeves had received abrasions to his nose, temple, hand and shoulder.

The driver of the car said that he was only 10 yards from Nathaniel Reeves when he first saw him and that he had been unable to stop in time to avoid him.

Nathaniel Reeves was then taken to the Royal Infirmary where he later died.

There was no evidence to show how he had received his injuries and an open verdict was returned.

Nathaniel Reeves was a corporal in an army unit stationed in Derbyshire and had come from Stoke-on-Trent.
