Sex: male

Date: 11 Apr 2004

Place: Wykeham Way, Kirkdale

Michael James Singleton was shot four times in Wykeham Way, Kirkdale on 11 April 2004.

He had been at a friend's home at the time, about 10pm, when several men burst in through the back door and shot him four times in the head and chest. His friend had been putting her two children to bed at the time.

It was thought that he might had been killed over a drugs feud.

He was noted as having been a relative of Peter Singleton who was shot dead the year before. Peter Singleton's murder is also unsolved.

The police said that they were also considering possible links with the murder of Craig Barker a week earlier who was shot in his car in Robson Street, Everton. However, the murder of Craig Barker was soon after solved.

Two men were arrested following the murder of Michael Singleton but released.

Wykeham Way was on the Grizedale Estate, which was described as at the time having been a high crime area, and used as an open-air drugs market by violent criminals. The estate was subject to heavy policing over the following years to tackle the problems, with hundreds of arrests made, weapons seized and millions of pounds from drugs proceeds confiscated.
