Baby

Age: 0

Sex: male

Date: 25 Oct 1924

Place: Priors Haven, Tynemouth

The body of a baby was found in the sea at Prior's Haven, Tynemouth on Saturday 25 October 1924.

The body was found by a man that had lived in Percy Street, Tynemouth on the Saturday morning. He said that it had been lying between the high and low water mark in Prior's Haven. He said that he then informed the River Police who removed the body.

It was thought that it had been left on the sands by the receding tide.

The doctor that examined the body on the Saturday said that it was greatly decomposed and that he could not determine its sex or form any opinion as to its cause of death or whether it had breathed. However, he said that he thought that the body was that of a newly born child and that it had been dead for about four weeks.

An open verdict was returned.
