The body of a newly-born child was found on the East Lancashire Road at Kirkby on 31 March 1963.
An open verdict was returned at the inquest held at Whiston Hospital on Friday 3 May 1963.
A Home Office pathologist said that owing to the advanced state of putrefaction of the body, that there was insufficient evidence to show whether the baby had been born alive.
He estimated that it had been dead from two to four weeks.
