Adam Brown

Age: 24

Sex: male

Date: 20 Jan 1995

Place: Greys Monument, Grey Street, Newcastle

Adam Brown died after being found injured near a cash machine in Newcastle on 19 January 1995. He died the following day.

Two people were tried for his murder but acquitted.

It was alleged that they had tried to force him to reveal his bank details.

Adam Brown had been a disc jockey and had recently moved into a flat in Newcastle's West end.

He had suffered from severe head injuries by a TSB cash machine near the Metro Station in Grey Street, Newcastle, near Grey's Monument. His card was found to be still in the machine, but his PIN had not been entered. The police said that they thought he had been attacked either just as he put his card in, or that his attackers had taken the card out of his pocket whilst he was unconscious and put it in.

It was thought his attackers had repeatedly kicked him.

He had been on a night out before being found on the Thursday morning, having spent the night at various nightspots including the Planet Earth club where he used to be a DJ.

The last sighting of him before the attack was in a local food takeaway between 2,20am and 2.30am.

After being taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary he was pronounced brain-dead and his life support machine was turned off. His parents had been at his bedside at the time.

The police used CCTV footage from cameras high above the city centre in an effort to trace his attackers.

A 19-year-old woman appeared at Newcastle-upon-Tyne magistrates on 1 March 1995 and who men, aged 30 and 21, were questioned by the police, and two people were tried in March 1996, but acquitted.
